FROM THE AUTHOR
This read-me is to serve as an insight into the concepts I employed
in the design of these 3 cockpits. When I first got my copy of GP2 on
the day of it's release, I was pretty exited as I am a F1 nutter and
I knew it was going to be the most realistic sim of it's time. I was
amazed at the realism of the driving model but I could not understand
why the cockpits were so cartoon-esque when every other effort had been
made to optimize realism. I then created new cockpits so that they had
a high as possible degree of realism within the context of the game.
The hi and low resolution cockpits you have here are based on the three
major teams. They were created by reference to may magazine articles and
books so that objects, such as the steering wheel, are as "real" as
possible. Here are some of the noticeable differences:
- Altered cockpit shape with more realistic carbon fibre. More
reminiscent of a high nose car.
- THE MOST REALISTIC steering wheels available
- Improved main function display
- Smaller actual and recommended gear number to fit in with the
new shape with different colourings for Fwd, Rvs and Spin gears.
- Improved driver aid and damage indication (shapes like the relevant
car) displays with graduated shading.
- Host of dummy buttons that were copied from the actual cockpits.
THANKS GOES OUT TO..
Chris Roy for advice on steering wheel texturing. Also to Wilco van Deijl,
Jan Johansson and R Saso whos original concepts I have employed and mutated!
FINALLY.
These cockpits WILL NOT MAKE YOU GO FASTER.
Have fun!
